ABOUT.

Black Pepper Paperie Co. is a Washington, D.C.-based decorative art and design studio owned and operated by Hadiya Williams.

Bringing art, traditions and stories together through patterns and objects that represent cultural influences from across the African diaspora.

from the Artist

Everything I create is inspired by lineage, the cultures of the African Diaspora and how we are connected through space and time. My work tells stories of history, cultural memory, migration, and ritual.

Black Pepper Paperie Co. was born out of a love of creating, sharing, and inspiring others. Since 2017, it has evolved from a clay-based hobby/maker business to a full-time decorative art and design studio. It is an art-centered practice that includes hand-made ceramic objects, surface pattern design, and wall art.
